Marriene Langton: Spreydon, Christchurch, New Zealand; 2023 has dawned hot and clear. We are a strong team of kaiako, support staff and leadership, ready to take on the challenges of another year in our kura. We have just held one of the best hangi yet to show our community manaaki , with the expert assistance of three of our dads. This is a very special place to work and we see many of our ex students calling in to see us, even after several years at new schools. Once you are a part of or school whanau, you will always be our whanau.

Take A Deep Breath And Tell The Pilot Not To Talk

I do not want to hear the safety brief about arming doors and emergency lighting or breathing normally into a plastic bag flapping from the ceiling. Am I the only one who does get up and count the number of seats to the emergency doors and try to figure out how to eliminate any large people who might block my egress? Why do pilots want to talk and drive?

Dear Lord protect me from the seat kickers, phantom pharters, compulsive talkers, snorers and the great unwashed on all of the flights.

My travels are about to begin. It's a case of feel the fear and do it anyway. As long as my seat is next to the loo I will be fine. It's amazing how flying is a wonderful antidote to constipation.

In 9 weeks of travel I know I will meet wonderful people, cover thousands of kilometres, learn a lot and hopefully be a blessing to others. I will miss my whanau. Love and blessings.
