Friday fried fish

Wisconsin does Friday fired fish well. Barbara invited several of her children, grand children and birdie a great grandchild to an inn for a shared fish fry up. There were several kinds of fried fish, German potto salad which is served hot, coleslaw. Fries, potato pancakes which you can eat with. Apple sauce or maple syrup, lots of fresh lemon and tartare sauce. We had it family style and passed the platters and bowls around.
Later we piled off into the countryside for ice creams at Scoope de Ville which is a mum and dad homemade ice cream parlour decorated in the 1950s style. If I'd known we were going ice cream hunting I would never have eaten that other piece of fish.
Barbara'sfamily are lovely and were a laugh to be with. It was a genuine Wisconsin experience which I think dates back to the catholic tradition of Friday fish. It was a lovely way to end my time in Oconomowoc .Barbara was endlessly generous and thoughtful. I even got to watch chipmunks, squirrels and cardinals on her back lawn. Wildlife at last.
The previous afternoon we had met Trish and Melissa at a ranch where they are housing their new horse. They rescued it from the kill house. It's a walker, possibly dressage but needs a lot of feeding up and care before they can think about riding it. Poor hobo is a bit battered and bruised. His best friend is his stable mate"donkey." It was very very hot on the ranch and the flies had a lovely time biting everything.
